SEVERT HOLLAND CAME FROM ETNE

Funeral Services for Well Known Citizen Were Held Here Last Saturday

Severt Holland, son of Rasmus and Carrie Holland, was born at Holland, Etne, Norway, Sept. 1, 1872, and died at the hospital at Story City, Feb. 3, 1938 at the age of 65 years and 5 months.

He was brought to the hospital where he underwent an operation for a ruptured appendix. He rallied for a while, but pneumonia set in and was the cause of his death.

He was given all the care that human hands could give, first by local doctors and then by his son-in-law, Dr. W. Anderson and his wife, a daughter of Mr. Holland, who is a trained nurse. But all efforts failed.

In 1892, then 20 years old, Mr. Holland came to America, and settled at Boone, Iowa, where he made his home for 16 years.

Since 1908 he has been farming near Randall.

August 31, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Peterson, a daughter of well known pioneer family, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Peterson of Story City.

To this union were born 3 children, Mrs. Clara Stevenson, Randall, Mrs. Elsie Swenson, Randall and Mrs. Dr. W. Anderson of Detroit, Michigan.

The wife and these children and 6 grandchildren mourn the departure of a kind husband and father.

He also leaves 5 brothers and 2 sisters to mourn his passing. Two sisters have preceded him in death, Mrs. Seaboe of Huxley and Mrs. Auestad of Radcliffe.

Sixteen years ago, Mr. Holland was converted and entered into fellowship with his Savior. In this fellowship he lived and died.

One of his last utterances was a quotation from Deuteronomy, chapter 33 and verse 7. "Underneath are the everlasting arms of God."

For many years he was a member of the Elim Lutheran church, Randall, but of late he has been a member of the Bethel Lutheran church, Story City.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 5, from the home and the Bethel church. The church was filled with sympathetic friends of the deceased. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated assisted by Rev. B. Barstad of Radcliffe.

A sum of money was given to missions in his memory.

The pall bearers were: B. Anderson, R. Hatteberg, J. Severaid, Wm. Hodnefield, T. Auestad and M. Pierson.
