IRA D. DOOLITTLE

Ira Dwight Doolittle was the youngest son of Wm. R. and Elaine F. Doolittle and was born on the 16th day of December, 1875 on the Doolittle homestead a home - miles south of Story City. He grew to manhood in this community and has resided here during his entire lifetime.

On May 26th in the present year he suffered a stroke of apoplexy which rendered him helpless for a season, but he recovered sufficiently to be able to be about until he had a second attack in recent days which resulted in his death Saturday morning November 13, 1937. His age was 61 years and eleven months, less 3 days.

He was married to Miss Gusta Johnson on August 30, 1897 and in the spring of 1898 he, with his companion, moved onto the farm south of Story City which they occupied until 1904, after which the family removed to the Doolittle homestead, where they resided until 1935, when they came into Story City. To them were born two sons and three daughters.

He united with Grace Evangelical church in 19--, during the pastorate of Rev. L. J. T. Smay and a few years later served as a member of the board of trustees of the church for a season. His physical condition deprived him of many privileges which he otherwise might have enjoyed.

He is survived by his wife, his three daughters, who are Mrs. Leonard Olson of Faribault, Minn., Mrs. Sherman M. Larson of Roland and Mrs. George Toft of Story City, his two sons, Lester and Clarence of Story City; three sisters, who are Mrs. Harriet Lillian Carlton of Rolfe, Mrs. Electa J. Brown and Miss Emma Doolittle of Story City; three brothers, F. D. and Wm. J. Doolittle of Story City, and R. L. Doolittle of Webster City, and -- grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 16, Rev. Bergeman officiating at the Henderson funeral home and at the Grace church. The pallbearers were: Pete Peterson, --- Wierson, Julius Knutson, Walter Hermanson, Andrew Knutson and C. H. Johnson. The Misses Marilyn James and Dorothy Ahrens sang two selections, with Vernon Anderson at the piano.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. -- Behrendson and Mrs. Lester Lynch of Gilmore City, Mrs. Clyde Doolittle of Woolstock, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Greiner, Ruby and Lyman, and Fred and Guy Doolittle of Blairsburg, Mrs. Frank Gibb of Des Moines, Mrs. J. H. Dodds, Mr. and Mrs. M-- --eburgh, Gordon Huffman and Ida Johnson of Ames, and Pete Mathison of Nevada.
