SEVERT LUND

Severt K. Lund was born near Newark, Ill., Feb 27, 1874 and died in Chicago, Feb. 25, 1936. He had been in declining health for some time but not confined to his bed until six weeks before his death. He leaves to mourn one brother, John K. Lund of Story City and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Hynning and Mrs. Tena Olson, both of Chicago.

Mr. Lund moved to Northwood, Iowa with his parents, at the age of 10 years. He was confirmed by Rev. Henry Strand in the Lutheran Church in Northwood. Some years later the family moved to a farm 5 miles west of Randall and he attended Jewell College, and later to Valparaiso college. All along he made his own way. He moved to Chicago about thirty-eight years ago and began working in a tailor establishment. After a few years he became interested in real estate and insurance business, in which he continued until his death.

When Mr. Lund first went to Chicago, he joined the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. For many years he was an active member, holding the position of Secretary of the congregation, and being connected with Sunday school work. Later he became a member of the United Lutheran Church of Oak Park. Here he served on the building committee. He also served on the board of the Children's Home for many years, and on the board of the Church Publishing House. He was interested in the Deaconess Hospital, the Old People's home and several other institutions.

He was always ready to help those in need. He loved his church and his Bible. He was a kind and loving brother and his Christian character will be long remembered.

Funeral services were held Fri., Feb. 28 at 2 P. M. in the United Lutheran Church of Oak Park, Dr. Anderson officiating. Saturday following, funeral services were held in the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Story City, Rev. T. T. Heimarck officiating. The following were pall bearers: A. G. Larson, John and Charlie Hove, M. C. Townswick, Martin Swenson and Tom Mathre. Mrs. Torjusson sang. The body was laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in Story City.

The Grays lake (Ill.) Times, speaking of the death of Mr. Lund, says:

He was a man of quiet and kindly temperament; he loved the young folks and did much good as he wandered thru life. He was a generous donor to welfare and educational work, and one of those who did not let his left hand know what the right hand did.
