D. A. DARROW
According to the Dyer, Tenn. Reporter of Feb. 6, the funeral of D. A. Darrow, whose death we briefly noted two weeks ago, was held in the Dyer Methodist church of which he had been a member for many years, on Feb. 4. The pastor, Rev. J. L. Bagby, assisted by Rev. J. H. Thomas, officiated.
Mr. Darrow had been in failing health for several years, suffering from a cancer which confined him to his home the last few months, where he bore his affliction with fortitude and retained his friendly and pleasant disposition towards his family and friends.
Delavan Allen Darrow was born July 26, 1854 at Fulton, N. Y., a son of Isaac and Saphona Darrow. He was thus 82 years old at the time of his death. Shortly after his marriage to Hettie Blakeslee, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Blakeslee, he moved to Story City, where he engaged in his vocation as miller in Swan's mill. Later he entered business in Story City, being for many years the owner of a music, sewing machine and novelty store.
His first wife died in Chicago, and later he was married to Mrs. Lucy Wellington, who besides a son born to his first wife, Frank Boyd Darrow of Nashville, Tenn., survives him.
Mr. Darrow had made his home in Dyer about thirty years, being manager and part owner of the Dyer milling company. He was well liked by all who knew him, being of a friendly nature, and always ready to sympathize and help those in need.
