Obituary
Nels Amlund Donhowe was born a few miles south of Story City on Jan. 8, 1876, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Dale, at Story City on Dec. 23, 1935, at the age of 59 years and 11 1/2 months.
He was married in 1903 to Miss Lena Jacobson. To this union six children were born, one of whom died in infancy, and five of whom, with the widow, are left to mourn his loss; they are Mrs. Jasper Dale of Story City, Lawrence of Randall, Burnette of Belle Plaine, Richard of Jewell, and Howard of Dubuque. There are also three grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister also survive: John of Eagle Grove, Peter and Mrs. Sam Johnson of Story City.
Mr. Donhowe had suffered from a paralytic condition since 1929, with more or less serious illness until the last stroke on Dec. 22, from which he was unable to recover. With all his sickness he was a patient sufferer and was ready to go when the final summons came. His entire life was spent in this community, except two years at Butterfield, Minn. He was baptized in infancy by Rev. N. Amlund, and confirmed in the St. Petri church as a youth, holding his membership there until his death.
