FORMER GILBERT MAN MET DEATH

Ira Nerim, 45, Meets Fate with 5 Others in Bunk House Fire in Colorado

The sad news has come to relatives hereabouts that Ira Nerim, 45 years old, had lost his life in a fire at a mine near Alma, Colo., Sept. 7.

It seems that fire broke out in the bunk house from an overheated stove in the dead of night, trapping a score of miners. Six of the men were so badly burned that they died almost instantly, and several others were severely injured while trying to get out of the burning building.

Ira Nerim was born near Bergen, Norway on January 8, 1890. He came to the United States in 1908. His residence was Story City and Gilbert for several years. He joined the regular army in 1915, served 3 years and 7 months, and was given an honorable discharge. He enlisted for the World war in 1918 and served 22 months overseas.

He was married in Baltimore, Md., and had two children by this marriage. He then went west to work in the mines at Alma, Colo., where he worked 3 years in the American mine until the time of his death.

Ira was buried in Denver (Crown Hill Cemetery) on September 13, by the American Legion.

He is survived by two sisters and two brothers; Mrs. Severt Jacobson of Kanawha, Mrs. Iver Wagner of Guckeen, Minn., Lewie Nerim of Rudeyard, Mont., and Lars Nerim of Denver; also two children, Dorothy and Kenneth of Baltimore, Maryland.
