OBITUARY OF GEORGE BOYD

George E. Boyd was born in Randall, Iowa, Dec. 24, 1891, and died in Story City hospital July 31, 1935, at the age of 43 years, 7 months and 5 days. He was a son of Erick and Minnie Boyd.

He was baptized in the Randall church and confirmed in the Tipton church in Hardin county. Mr. Boyd was married to Emma Schlafke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schlafke of near Jewell, Jan. 15, 1920. To this union were born three girls and four boys: Gertrude, Marjorie, Mabel, Walter, Orville, Eldon and Marion, ranging in age from 14 to 3 years.

A brother, Andrew E., died Oct. 10, 1918, and a sister, Margaret (Mrs. Allen), died Oct. 18, 1918. A brother, Mervin, and one sister, Pearl (Mrs. Richard Nelson), are living. Between the lines we can see that Mr. and Mrs. Erick Boyd have had their share of serious losses in their family.

Funeral was held from the Bethel church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud of Randall. As evidence of heartfelt sympathy the church was overflowing in spite of the torrid weather. Many flowers and lage gifts also evidenced the feeling toward the family. Interment took place on the family lot in Fairview cemetery.

George Boyd was kindness to a fault. At various time thru life he was not feeling well, and two serious sicknesses--pneumonia, when his life was despaired of, but he himself never lost hope of getting over the sickness; but it left him in somewhat weakened condition. When his last sickness came on he said that, he did not think he would get over it. The last sickness was a bowel trouble for which he had to undergo an operation but it was found that it was undertaken too late. He had been ailing for about a week when an operation was found to be necessary.

George was a good workman and reliable. His main work was chimney masonry and painting. His nature was to look at the bright side of things and as a neighbor was always pleasant, and accommodating. It is a great satisfaction to know that he realized that the end was approaching and that his soul was in the balance. His pastor, Rev. Paulsrud, saw him and prayed with him and for him, as well as his old Sunday school teacher, L. C. Kahrs. All who came to see him were asked to pray for him. God is good and merciful and wants us all to come to Him. We have reason to hope that George came.

As to the family God has promised to take care of widows and orphans, and in this case there is no doubt about it.

The pall-bearers were Herman Ahrens, Ingram Larson, John Savereid, Gerhard Larson, T. M. Holm and Ed Peterson.
