CARL SWITZER IS LAID TO REST

Well Known citizen Died Last Friday Morning

Funeral services were held last Sunday for Carl Switzer, whose death occurred last Friday morning at his home southeast of town after a protracted sickness.

The funeral was held in Grace church, with Rev. Bergeman officiating. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, namely, LeRoy and Raymond Switzer, Lloyd and Cliff Furman, Hans Mesha and Peter Thompson. Interment was made in a Des Moines cemetery.

Among the large concourse of people who filled the church almost to capacity were the following friends and relatives from a distance: Mrs. John Schreiner of Correctionville, Mr. and Mrs. Forch and Mrs. Riehl and son of Dana, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Riehl and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hackett of Jefferson, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Blink of Nevada, Alta Cole of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cole and Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Furman of Webster City, Mrs. L. C. Baldus and daughter Gladys of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Greiner of Colo, Walter Baldus and sons of Oakland, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baldus of Ames, and John Egenes of Renwick.

Singing at the funeral was by a male quartet composed of Orin Dickinson, Hubert Egenes, George Sowers and Stanton James, with Mrs. Everett Anderson at the piano.

Obituary

At the beginning of the service Rev. Bergeman read the following obituary:

Carl Switzer was the oldest of a family of nine children, having been born on a farm south of Story City 72 years ago on the 10th day of last April. After a prolonged illness, in which he suffered greatly at times, he passed on to his eternal reward, at the family home, on last Friday morning, May 31, 1935. How truly the servant of Jehovah hath said: "The days of our years are three score years and ten; their strength is labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away." Because of the suffering which he was called upon to endure he longed for release and prayed that the Lord would take him to his eternal home.

He was married to his now sorrowing widow, Miss Luella Cole, on Oct. 21, 1890, and together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for a period of nearly 45 years. With the exception of 12 years, which were spent in the town of Story City, the family resided on a farm south of this place. The home was blessed with three children, of whom one died in infancy. He was a good husband, a loving father, a kind friend and neighbor and had not identified himself with any Church organization until in recent years, yet he was minded to live the Christian life to the best of his ability and to practice the principles as set forth by our Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his companion, who ministered to his needs in his last illness; one son Ralph of San Antonio, Tex., one daughters, Mildred Mary, who is the wife of Mr. A. Lindahl of Des Moines; three brothers, August Switzer of Gilbert, John Switzer of Des Moines and Theo. Switzer of San Antonio, Tex.; four sisters, Mrs. Mesh of Gilbert, Mrs. George Blink of Nevada, Mrs. Rose Riehl of Dana and Mrs. John Schreiner of Correctionville; two grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
