OBITUARY OF MRS. JOHN H. JOHNSON
Minnie Merkel Johnson was born February 25, 1861, at Naestved, Seeland, Denmark. At the age of 8 years she came to America with her parents, settling at Story City, where she made her residence for the greater part of her lie. She was united in marriage to John H. Johnson on March 17, 1902. To this union were born two children, both of whom died in infancy.
She had been a sufferer for 3 years but seriously ill about 4 months. All that could be done for her by the hands of loving husband and son and daughter-in-law was done make her comfortable, but loving hands could not hold her here, and on July 3, 1934, she departed this life at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 8 days.
She was a great lover of her home and her flowers. She was a good Christian character and held her place regularly in the church services whenever her health permitted. Her's was a faith that did not shrink at the end of the way, but held sure and steadfast. She was baptized as a child. She united with Grace church under the pastorate of Rev. Wendel in 1916. She remained a faithful member until her death, when she joined the Church Triumphant.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband, and adopted son, Helge, and one brother Wm. Merkel, two sisters, Julia and Mrs. Amelia Elwell, also three grandchildren, Vera, Richard and Marlys.
The funeral was held Friday, July 6th, at the Grace Evangelical church, with Rev. C. L. Fuller in charge. The songs that were sung were favorites of the deceased, and were rendered by the Fuller girls. Interment was made at Center cemetery. Pall bearers were N. P. Larson, Pete Peterson, J. C. and C. F. Johnson, Hans S. Nelson and N. P. Paulson. The five Elwell sisters gave $5 to missions in honor of their aunt.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Johnson from Parker's Prairie, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ness and Dorothy from Goodell, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Anderson, Myron, Marcus and Arlene and Mettie Larson from Williams.
