MRS. JOHN WIRTH PIONEER HARRISON TOWNSHIP SETTLER

Funeral service were held Tuesday morning, May 17, at 9:30 at SS. Peter and Paul's church for Mrs. John Wirth, aged 80, one of Lafayette township's most highly esteemed pioneers, who passed away Sunday, Mary 15, 1932.

The requiem High Mass was celebrated by Father D. A. German. Pall bearers were M. J. Baldus, Ray Switzer, J. C. Wirth, Leo Wirth, Cleo Wirth and Joseph Wirth. Interment was made in SS. Peter and Paul's cemetery, beside her parents and brother, Peter Dickoph, who preceded her in death. Among the large number who attended the funeral were three of her school pupils of over sixty years ago, Gust Switzer, J. C. Johnson and L. J. Tjernagel.

Mary A. Wirth, only daughter of John and Sophia Dickoph, was born in Nassau, Germany, Sept. 19, 1851. She came with herp parents to America in 1855, and lived in Joliet, Ill., where a group of relatives resided. in 1856 they came to Lafayette township, Story county, where she resided until the time of her death.

Oct 6, 1873, she was united in marriage to John Wirth in Boonesboro, by Father Concannon. They settled on a farm in the eastern part of Harrison township where they lived until the spring o 1876 when they moved across the line into Lafayette township, where they have since resided.

She with her husband made two trips abroad; in 1900 they visited Europe and in 1910 they took a pleasure trip around the world. In 1923 they celebrated their golden wedding.

Mrs. Wirth was loved and respected by all who knew her and lived a devout Christian life. She had a kind and sweet disposition and her departure brings sorrow to a host of relatives and friends. The example of the life she lived would be on well worth following.

She was taken ill with the flu last February. All that loving hands could do was done for her, and she peacefully passed away Sunday morning, May 15, at 3:30. She constantly had the kind and tender care of her devoted husband and Mayme, who with large number of relatives and friends are left to mourn her loss.
