Mrs. C. J. Vold
Guri Kjaestine Foroe was born at Foroe, near Haugesund, Norway, Nov. 5, 1840, and died at her home in Story City, April 5, 1921, being thus 80 years and 5 months of age.
She immigrated to America in the spring of 1872 and located at Leland, Ill., where she met and married Cornelius J. Vold in 1876. Four children were born to this marriage, namely, Bertel of Story City and Julius of Amboy, Minn.; Tillie who died at the age of 14, and another daughter who died in infancy.
She is also survived by the following step-children, Henry, Abel and Malachi Vold and Mrs. Bertha Johnson. Mrs. Johnson and Malachi were able to get here for the funeral on Friday. Her son Julius had been laid up with an operation and was not able to come, but his son Lyle came in his place.
Mr. and Mrs. Vold moved to here from Leland in the year 1880, and with the exception of two years, when they moved back to Leland, they made this their home ever since. Mr. Vold passed away about ten years ago.
Funeral services were held in the St. Petri church on Friday afternoon, Rev. Heimarck, her old time neighbor, officiating in the absence of the pastor. A large concourse of people were in attendance to bear their last testimony to their love and esteem for the departed pioneer, who had lived and labored so long in our midst.
Among those from out-of-town at the funeral were Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Leland, Ill.; M. C. Vold of Jeffries, Minn.; Lyle Vold of Amboy, Minn., and C. P. Corneliussen of Alta.
