OBITUARY

Mrs. Frederick Olson

Mrs. Frederick Olson (Laura Butler) was born at Vik Sogn, Norway, on Sept. 2, 1940, her parents being Marquis and Alice Butler. In 1844, when she was four years old, she immigrated to America with the rest of her family. They were 11 weeks in crossing the Atlantic and they stopped at Chicago, then a small village of only a few huts.

In Chicago she met Frederick Olson and they were married in the year 1858. This union was blessed with 12 children. They made their home in Chicago until 1864, when they moved to Leland, Ill. They made their home on a farm just west of Leland for 18 years, or until 1882, when they moved to the farm 3 1/2 miles northwest of Story City. This was the family home until the fall of 1919, when Mrs. Olson and daughters moved to their cozy home in town, where Mrs. Olson passed away June 2, 1920, at the age of 79 years and 9 months.

Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her husband and five children. Mr. Olson died 16 year ago, Jan. 14, 1904. The surviving children are Fred of Clay City, ill., Francis, Alice, Lydia, Esther, Josie and Bertha, all of Story City.

Mrs. Olson was taken sick abut ten weeks ago, and when the call came to go to the better land she was ready and happy to respond.

Funeral services were held in the St. Petri church, of which she had long been a member. Among the out of town relatives who were present at the funeral were: Mrs. Maggie Butler and daughter Angie of Des Moines; Allie Butler of Lee, Ill.; Mrs. W. M. Stonemen of Chicago; Mrs. Ole Rolandson; S. L. Hoppersten; H. L. Hoppersten of Capron, Ill.
