OBITUARY

Gustof L. House

(From Chugwater, Wyo. Record)
When the messenger brot the word that another one of our neighborhood had been called to the great beyond, there was sorrow expressed on every side. To be taken away before even having a chance to carry out the long made plans, to leave a loving wife and two little babes, just learning to lisp the sweetest name next to mother's, to go out of the community that one has helped to build, to leave this world when hopes are highest and ambition greatest, such was the lot of our friend and neighbor, Gus House.

He was born Feb. 7, 1883 at Lisbon, Ill. and died at Chugwater, Wyo. Dec. 1, 1918, aged 35 years and 10 months. He attended the home school and later spent three years of St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minn. Later he joined with a bunch of others, a steel construction company whose business it was to ----- railway bridges. This work took him into nearly all of principle cities west of the Mississippi and consequently gave him a knowledge of the country which few people possess, as well as a knowledge of human nature.

In 1913 he married Miss Millie Marvick at Story City, Ia., and since that time they have made their home here. Besides his loving wife and two small children, he leaves to mourn his loss, five sisters and five brothers and many other relatives and friends.

Short services were conducted at the home east of town Wednesday, Rev. Evans in charge, and the remains brot to Chugwater for shipment to Story City, Iowa, accompanied by his family, M. O. Marvick, father of Mrs. House; a brother Martin; and a sister Cora from Chicago.

Gustof L. House, in the few short years he lived here, made many friends. He was good neighbor, a kind husband and a loving father. he was of the practical sort of man, not asking for great things but for the common things of this world. "To live by the sike of the road and be a friend of man," this was his aim.

The remains were brought to Story City last week, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Heimarck in the open air Friday. The deceased was unknown to most of our people, but the surviving widow was born and reared in our midst; great sympathy goes out to her in the great loss which she has sustained.
