OBITUARY
Lars J. Larson
Lars J. Mathre was born in Mathre, Skaanevik, Norway, May 31, 1839, and died May 25, 1922, after an illness of ten months from a stroke of paralysis. He came to America with his parents, three sisters and four brothers in 1856. They settled on a farm in Illinois for a short time before coming to Iowa, where they settled on a farm east of Randall.
When the call for soldiers came he joined the Union army as a private, Co. E, 91st Reg., Ill. Infantry, and was in the army three years. At the close of the war he was discharged with honors.
He was married to Bertha Olson July 13, 1867, by Rev. Nels Amlund. They settled on a farm 3 miles east of Story City, where he lived continuously for 54 years. 7 girls and 4 boys were born to this union; 3 boys have gone on to the great beyond. His wife died August 8, 1913.
He leaves to mourn his departure 1 brother, S. J. Larson Mathre of Randall; 7 daughters and 1 son, 7 grand children and 3 great grandchildren.
He was buried from the Immanuel church May 30, where a large concourse of relatives and friends had gathered. Rev. T. T. Heimarck officiated. He was laid to rest in the Story City cemetery.
