OBITUARY
Ella M. Brown
Ella M. Brown was born at Elmira, Monroe County, New York, August 11, 1848, died at Ruthven, Iowa, March 1, 1918, age 69 years, 6 months and 17 days.
At the age of eighteen she moved with her parents to Ames, Story County, Iowa, where on September 18th, 1870, she was united in marriage to John Hughes. They continued to live at Ames until the spring of 1883 when they moved to Wall Lake, Sac County, Iowa, where they resided 2 years returning to Ames until 1896. From here they moved to Ruthven, Iowa, living at this place until the spring of 1902, when they moved to Felton, Minn., returning to Ruthven, 1906.
Mrs. Hughes had been in poor health for a year past, and about six weeks before her death contracted a cold, which settled in her bronchial tubes, turning into pneumonia from which she passed peacefully away at 2:30 last Friday morning at the home of her son, R. J. Hughes.
The deceased leaves to mourn her death four sons, James, Walter, George and Clyde. Seven grandchildren, two brothers, Horace Brown of Wilson, Wyoming and E. O. Brown of Boone.
Funeral services were conducted in the Congregational church at Gilbert on Sunday afternoon by Rev. Wissler and the body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery by the side of her husband.
