From Story City Herald November 7,1901 (page 7)

Obituary.--Jacob Charlson was born in Norway, Europe, June 27th, 1841 and died after an illness of four months, at his home south of Story City on October 30th, 1901.

In 185 the deceased came to Illinois; moved to Story county, Iowa, in 1857; in 1862 he went back to Illinois where he enlisted in Hanshaw's battery, serving his country faithfully for three long years, until the close of the rebellion.

He was united in marriage to Julia Ingebritson in 1868, whom he now leaves with five children their loss. The children are, Mesdames John Lee, Martin Anderson, John, Ingerbrit and Lena Charlson. Deceased was also a brother of our esteemed townsman C. J. Charlson and Mrs. Morrison, of Birmingham, Alabama.

For some time Mr. Charlson had been bothered with poor health, but, not until recently did his condition become serious. He was one of those men who died as he lived--he is dead but his memory will long be remembered by his many friends who join together in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

The funeral services were held in the St. Petri church Friday afternoon, Rev. Vangsness officiated.
