TWO FUNERALS HELD TUESDAY
MRS. J. O. ENES AND KNUDT O. HIGHLAND LAID TO REST
Two more pioneer citizens of the community have passed away, Mrs. John O. Enes being called by death Saturday afternoon and Knudt O. Highland Saturday night.
Mrs. John O. Enes
Mrs. John O. Enes was born July 12, 1856, in Illinois, her parents being Nils and Anna Johnson, and died at her home north of Roland July 11, 1925, being 68 years, 11 months and 29 days old at the time of her death.
She moved to Iowa with her parents when she was nine years old, settling on the farm three miles northeast of Roland, where she has lived continuously ever since, a period of 60 years.
She was married to John O. Enes May 31, 1887, in Roland, Rev. C. B. Jacobson performing the ceremony. Four children were born to this union, one of which, a boy, passed away when he was two years old. The others who are left with their father to mourn her departure are Thomas at Forest City, Alfred at the home place, and Mrs. Joseph Welta of near Randall. All the children were present at the funeral services which were held from Bergen church Tuesday afternoon at 1:30. Rev. M. O. Sumstad preached the funeral sermon and Rev. G. Smedal, of Minneapolis, spoke a few words of comfort. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.
Among those from a distance at the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. John Ulestad and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ulestad of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ulestad of Goodell, Mrs. J. Halverson of Fenton, Mrs. H. Ellingson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. S. Langland and family of Williams, Mrs. R. O. Rasmussen and Miss Mamie Woster of Crystal Lake.
