OBITUARY

MRS. W. S. JOHNSON

Mrs. W. S. Johnson passed away at her home southwest of Story City on Jan. 18, 1913, aged 72 years, 4 months and 9 days. She was one of the pioneer and well known residents of the neighborhood, highly respected by all who knew her.

Nancy Ann Jackson was born Sept. 9, 1840, in Clinton county, Ohio, but in infancy the family removed to Marion, Indiana, where she resided until her marriage to Wm. S. Johnson on April 24, 1859. To this union were born eight sons and one daughter. Four sons, Marshall, Elias, Clinton and Oscar, survive her, four having died in infancy and one son, Charles, having passed away several years ago. She was united with the Wesleyan Methodist church in her girlhood and later united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Gilbert, Iowa. In the autumn of 1869 the family came to Story county, locating in Milford township from where they moved to their present home where they have lived for nearly forty years.

Mrs. Johnson was one of a family of nine children, two of whom survive her, a brother, Frank Jackson, living in Arkansas, and Mrs. Rhoda Cranston who lives south of Atlantic, Iowa, and was her constant companion during the last days of her illness, May 11 last she was stricken with paralysis since which time she has been practically helpless. All that loving hand and kind hearts could do for her comfort was done, but she did not desire to remain after her active life closed. Her one desire was to be at rest with the loved ones who had preceded her to the better land.
