H. E. HEERS HAS PASSED AWAY
Called to the Better Land Sunday Morning After Long Illness
Harry E. Heers died last Sunday morning at his home west of Story City, after an illness with diabetes extending over a period of nearly eight years. He had not been bedfast all of this time, but there was not a moment during these years that he was not a sick man.
The funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock Tuesday, and interment was made at Center cemetery.
Rev. L. J. U. Smay of Laurel, who had been for several years on intimate terms with the deceased preached the sermon, after Rev. Wendel had read a portion of the 14th chapter of St. John. The preacher took for his text Paul's inspired utterance: "Grave, where is thy sting; death, where is thy victory!" In concluding he paid a beautiful tribute to the departed as a man of few words and exemplary character; a good neighbor, a true friend, a faithful husband and a kind father. He had borne his afflictions with patience and towards the end was glad to be released from the bonds which held his spirit confined to his suffering body.
The large concourse of neighbors and friends from a distance bore eloquent testimony to the high esteem and love felt for Harry E. Heers. To those who knew him he had ever proven his worth as a man. To the survivors of the family his loss will prove great and keen, and they have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their hour of grief.
The following from a distance attended the funeral:
Ernest Bode, Charles City; Mr. L. Eichenrohd, Algona; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Eichenrohd, Dows; Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson, Ankeny; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Alber, Des Moines; Mrs. Mattie Irvine, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Miller, Orilla; Mr. J. L. Miller, Orilla; Mrs. A. M. Miller, Orilla; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mason, Indianola; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis, Ames; Wm. Kennedy, Ames; Dr. W. C. Heers, Atlantic.OBITUARY
