FORMER ROLAND MAN BURIED
Funeral Services For Lewis Mathison Held At Emmore, Minnesota Last Wednesday Afternoon. Came To Story County Forty Five Years Ago.
Lewis M. Mathison was born in Norway, December 3, 1865 and died at the Emanuel Lutheran Hospital at Mankato, Minn. on Wednesday, March 12th, Rev. J. O. Gisselquist preaching the funeral sermon.
The deceased came to this county in 1866 with his parents, the family locating in Chicago for a time, but in 1869, they came to Story County, living at or near Roland. On September 15, 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Johnson of Clarion. To this union, six children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Those who are left with their mother to mourn his death are Alfred, of Elmore, Thomas, of Maynard, Iowa, Viola and Mansel, who are staying at home. The deceased is a brother of E. H. and C. J. Mathison, of this place.
Mr. Mathison had been a resident of Elmore since 1895 where he had held a position with the railroad in their yards at that point and while at his duties last fall, was injured in one hand and ever since that time, he has been gradually failing, so that his end was not unexpected.
Among those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: C. J. Mathison, of this place, Mrs. S. J. Nessa, of Story City; O. S. Mathison, of Crystal Lake.
