MRS. SCHLANBUSCH DIED SUDDENLY
Former Resident Taken Suddenly Ill Last Saturday Morning and Passed Away Next Morning. Funeral Services Held Here Yesterday.
This community was shocked Monday morning to learn of the death of Mrs. L. Schlanbusch at her home at St. Paul, Minn., on Sunday morning. It was not known that she had been sick and the news was all the more unexpected. Mr. Schlanbusch had been in her usual health until a few weeks ago, when she seemed to be failing some, but nothing much was thought of it as she was up and around her daily duties every day. Early last Saturday morning, she suffered a stoke of apoplexy and passed away at five o'clock on Sunday morning.
Rachel Quam was born at Norway, Illinois on March 28, 1857 and died at St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday, February 17, 1924, being 66 years, 10 months and 19 days at her death. In 1877 she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. L. Schlanbusch, and the continued to reside in that community for about ten years, when they moved to Iowa locating on a farm four miles northeast of Roland. After farming 6 years they moved to Roland where Mr. Schlanbusch conducted a general merchandise establishment for twenty years. Eleven years ago they moved to St. Paul, where they have since made their home.
Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her sudden passing away, four children, Ernest G. Schlanbusch, Minneapolis; Mrs. Effie Osmundson, Dawson, Minn.; Mrs. Gertrude Fenton, Jewell; Dr. Orville Schlanbusch, Iowa City, and twelve grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Emma Mosey, Ottawa, Ill.; Mrs. Isabel Edwards, Ashland, Wis.; two brothers, Arthur Quam, Sheridan, Ill.; Victor Quam, Ashland, Wis.; and hosts of other relatives and friends are also left to mourn one who was loved and highly respected.
Mrs. Schlanbusch was a quiet home loving woman, who felt that her first duty was to her husband and children, and at all times showered her love and service to them. But she did not neglect other activities. She loved the church and was one of the most faithful members, never being absent from services except for some non-preventable cause. While a resident of this community, she was a member of Salem Lutheran church, and the ladies aid society of this congregation, and her removal from here was very keenly felt at the time.
Funeral services were held from the chapel at the Lutheran Seminary at St. Paul last Tuesday, where Prof. C. M. Wesvig, a close friend of Mr. and Mrs. Schlanbusch spoke the words of comfort to the bereaved family. All the children were present at this service. The remains were then taken to Roland and funeral services held from Salem Lutheran yesterday afternoon, Rev. J. N. Sandven preaching the funeral sermon. A large concourse of friends were present to pay their last respects to the deceased. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery.
Mr. E. G. Schlanbusch and Mrs. Ed Osmundson were unable to be present at the services here, but other members of the family were present.
