AGED PIONEER LAID TO REST
Former Roland Resident Called by Death After Three Years of Being an Invalid. Leaves Wife and Eight Children.
Maurits Malmin was born near Stavanger, Norway, September 15, 1846 and died at his home in McCallsburg October 15, 1923 at the age of 77 years and one month. Mr. Malmin was united in marriage to Karen Lura of Stavanger on June 18, 1875. To this union nine children were born of whom eight are living, one daughter having died at the age of two years. Mr. Malmin with his family emigrated from Norway to this country in 1881 and settled near this place where he lived for three years. He then moved to a farm east of here where he lived for eight years when he moved to a farm further east. Here he lived until 1914 and then moved to McCallsburg where he has since resided.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four sons and four daughters, also twenty one grandchildren. His children are Harry of Greattinger, Gerhard of McCallsburg, Martin of Minneapolis, Adlophi of Billings, Mont. and Mrs. O. C. Hougen, Mrs. O. V. Olson and Mrs. Peter Egenes all of McCallsburg and Mrs. Thom Grimsley of Buffalo Center, Iowa. All the children with the exception of Harry were present at the funeral. He is also survived by two brothers Garmon of Stavanger and Engvold of Clear Lake, Minn., also a host of other relatives and friends.
He was always a faithful member of the Lutheran church. Mr. Malmin was in former years a man of a rugged constitution. But about six years ago his health began to fail and the past three years he has been almost helpless.
The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Lutheran church at McCallsburg with Rev. T. H. Benson in charge assisted by the deceased's former pastor, Rev. J. N. Sandven of this place and a life long friend, Rev. Carl Eastvold of Northfield, Minn. The church was filled by relatives and friends who had gathered to pay their last respects. The floral offerings also bore mute sympathy and love. Music was furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Benson and the choir. Burial took place in the Warren township cemetery.
