J. J. Johnson (Brattesto)
John J. Johnson was born in Lee county, Ill., August 13, 1859, and died at his home two miles west of Roland July 6, 1927, being not quite 68 years old.
In 1862 he came with the Johnson family to Iowa and settled in this community where he has since lived, a period of 65 years. He was married Feb. 26, 1890, to Anne A. Johnson, to which union two children were born, Henry of Philadelphia, Pa. and Mattie, now Mrs. Arthur Comick [sic] of Lakefield, Minn. Mrs. Johnson passed away January 9, 1899.
He was again married, on Feb. 18, 1901, to Anna L. Wagner, to which union three children were born, Gertrude, who died in infancy, Lloyd of this place, and Gaylord, who died in January.
Besides Mrs. Johnson, who is confined to her home with illness, and the three children, he is survived by four sisters, Mrs. O. A. T. Larson of Roland, Mrs. Ben Sevde and Mrs. Ole Hendrickson of Story City, and Mrs. Lewis Larson of Shelby. He also leaves five grandchildren.
