OBITUARY OF MRS. KARI SJURSON SVELLAND
Mrs. Kari Sjurson Svelland was born June 27, 1835, at Mosteroien, Finnaas prestegjeld, Norway, and passed away Feb. 28, 1928, at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Quam, at the age of 92 years and 8 months.
She was married to Thor Sjurson Svelland in 1858. Three years later they emigrated to America and lived in Illinois until 1865, when they moved to Iowa. In 1872 they settled on a farm in Hamilton county they lived until her husband passed away in April 1899. She then moved to Story City living there 11 years after which she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Skorpen at Valley City, N. D., for 11 years. The last seven years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Quam of Story City.
The deceased leaves 3 daughters, namely, Mrs. Jens Skorpen of Valley City, N. D., Mrs. Carrie R. Larson of Randall and Mrs. T. J. Quam of Story City. A daughter, Mrs. Thomas Thompson, died 24 years ago. There are 27 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, two brothers, Anders Richardson of Quincy, Ill. and Richard Richardson of Eagle Grove.
The funeral services were held Friday, March 2, at the St. Petri church, of which she was a faithful member. Two of her grandchildren sang at the home and Goldie and Rosie Hagen sang a duet at the church. Six of her grandsons acted as pall bearers. The body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in Fairview cemetery of this place.
