Tom H. Torkelson
Tom H. Torkelson, son of Christ and Cecelia Torkelson, was born southwest of Roland, Sept. 6, 1872, and passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 1945, at 6 p.m. following a stroke which he suffered three hours earlier. He was 73 years and 2 months of age at the time of his death.

The deceased was born on a farm southwest of Roland, and has lived in that vicinity all of his life.

He was united in marriage to Louise Hannah Opstwedt in 1901. Seven years ago he and his wife purchased a farm near Story City where they have since made their home.

To this union 6 children were born, three of whom died in early childhood.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and three daughters, Mrs. B. E. Gandrup of Story City, Mrs. P.O. Kaness of Boone, and Mrs. McRoy Smith of Santa Ana, Calif., besides 5 grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. O. K. Helvig and Mrs. I. J. Hill of Story City, and Mrs. Jacob Birkeland* of Morris, Ill.

Funeral services were held at the St. Petri Lutheran Church at Story City Monday afternoon with Rev. S. T. Nelson officiating. Burial was made in the Roland cemetery. Pall bearers were Otto Hanson, Ernest Egeland, Erwin Grindem, Elmer Sande, Wm. Starkey, and Casper Torkelson.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Susie Mathilda (Torkelson) Berkland and her husband, Jacob, are buried in Saratoga Cemetery, Morris, Grundy County, Illinois as Berkland so I have indexed that name also.
