SOREN ANDERSON HAD LIVED HERE 60 YEARS

Soren Anderson was born at Landemandsver, Stord, Norway, Dec. 11, 1840, and died at his home in Story City, July 3, 1930, reaching the exceptional age of 89 years, 6 months and 22 days.

When 26 years of age he emigrated to America arriving in Calamus, Iowa, in June, 1866. Here he remained until the spring of 1870, at which time he and his wife moved to Story City, settling on a farm four miles south of town. Here he lived, worked, reared a family and became an active member of the community he had chosen for a home. In 1911 he retired from his more active duties, bought a residence in Story City and moved there to spend the balance of his life at leisure.

He was by trade a carpenter, and even the farming he found time to do a great deal of building. His farm work was also taken care of, so that thru the thrift, economy and had work so essential to the early pioneers, he became successful in this, as well as his carpenter profession. These same qualifications made it possible for him to always be a willing and liberal supporter of all civic and church needs.

While at Calamus Mr. Anderson became acquainted with Miss Martha Olson, whom he married in May of 1868. To them were born eleven children, nine of them living and here at their father's funeral. Besides the wife he is survived by the following children: Carl S. Anderson of Ormsby, Minn.; M. S. Anderson of Jackson, Minn.; Abe Anderson of St. James, Minn.; Severin, Edward and Bert, all of Story City; Mrs. Hans L. Hanson of Gilbert; Mrs. Bert Hill and Miss Clara of Story City. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held in the St. Petri church Saturday, July 5. Rev. Scarvie officiated, assisted by Rev. J. N. Andersen of Minneapolis, who was stopping here on his way home from Ames.

Six sons acted as pall bearers carrying their father to his last resting place in Fairview cemetery.
