OBITUARY
Mrs. H. P. ChandlerHulda Marie Coulter, daughter of John and Hulda Coulter, was born March 8, 1845, at North Hampton, Ohio. In 1850 her parents moved to Rock Island county, Ill. In 1860 she was married to John Davis. To this union 23 children were born, five of whom are living: Will Davis of Davis City, Mrs. Violet Reed of Zearing, Clay, Harry and Dan, all of Delta, Colo. She is also survived by five sisters and one brother living in Portland, Ore. and one sister, Mrs. William Balfour, living in Traer, Iowa; also 18 great grandchildren.
Following her first marriage her husband enlisted in the Union army and she went south his him and was with him when Vicksburg surrendered.
She moved to Zearing in the fall of 1890. Here she provided a home for her children and by hard work and industry kept the family together until all of them were married. On April 28, 1901, she was married to H. P. Chandler at Story City, who survives her. They returned to Zearing May 1, 1902, where they have resided since.
She was a good wife, a loving mother, a splendid neighbor, always attending strictly to her own household affairs.
She carried an unusual burden during the last months of her life owing to failing eyesight.
On Oct. 9 last she was taken to the County Home for treatment and during the absence of an attendant she fell from a third floor window to her death, Saturday, Nov. 10, 1923. Age, 78 years, 7 months and 29 days.
Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church Tuesday afternoon in charge of H. E. Trimble, pastor of the Christian church, assisted by Rev. Blakely. Burial was in Zearing cemetery.
