Father and Son Killed As Tractor Turns Over

Our community was shocked and saddened when word spread that tragic accident had claimed the life of James Crees, 32, and his son, Larry, 3 1/2, late Saturday afternoon on the farm where they lived northwest of Slater. The tractor on which they were riding overturned, pinning them beneath and killing them both instantly.

A double funeral service, held at the Riis Funeral Home on Monday at 1 p. m. for Mr. Crees and his young son, was attended by an overflow crowd of relatives, business associates and friends.

Conducting the services and bringing a very comforting message was the Rev. R. H. Kettell of Roanoke, Va., a long-time friend of both Mr. and Mrs. Crees. Mrs. Oliver Newman as organist, played a number of appropriate selections and accompanied Nilus Ihle who sang "The Old Rugged Cross."

There were many floral tributes and gifts to worthy causes in memory of father and son.

Pallbearers for Mr. Crees were Bob Needham, Dale Mauer, Don Redman, Ron Fulton, Gary Blodgett and John DeBoest, all friends and associates in the telephone business. Pallbearers for Larry were Ed Weir, John Crees, Joe Crees and Jesse Crees, all of whom were his uncles.

The interments were in Oak Hill Cemetery at Grand River, Ia.
