Faltin Kalsem Dies at Huxley

Faltin Kalsem, who had been a resident of Huxley since 1885, passed away at his home there Sunday morning a 6:30. He had been ill since sometime in December. Mr. Kalsem was 89 years of age.

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) at 2 o'clock in the Palestine Lutheran Church with Rev. Harry Stoutland officiating, assisted by Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge.

Arthur Kalsem of Cambridge sand "In the Garden" and "Sometime We'll Understand."

The floral tributes were beautiful and there were gifts to worthy causes in memory of Mr. Kalsem.

Pallbearers were Olem Tesdell, Ole Fjelland, Burton Tesdall, George Anderson, Walter Williams and Jerome Hill.

Burial was in the Lincoln Cemetery at Midvale, north of Huxley.

The Riis Funeral Home of Slater was in charge.

Obituary.

Faltin Kalsem was born Feb. 4, 1866 in Nedstrand, Stavanger, Noray. His parents were Peder and Ellen Kalsem.

He came to America at the age of 19 years and settled in the Huxley community.

For many years Mr. Kalsem was engaged in business in Huxley. He continued to live there until his death on Mar. 27, at the age of 80 years.

On Mar. 25, 1914 he was married to Bertha Valen. To them were born five children--four sons and one daughter.

Mr. Kalsem is survived by his wife Bertha; four sons Palmer of Baltimore, Md., Burnis, Faltin, Jr., and Kenneth and the daughter, Betty, all of Des Moines. He also leaves five grandchildren and other relatives to mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Karina, Bolette and Sina, and one brother, Claus.

For many years Mr. Kalsem was a member of the Lincoln Church in Huxley.
