Last Rites Held for Mrs. Thompson, 87

Last rites for Mrs. Johanna Thompson, 87, were held Thursday, May 9 at the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church at Huxley at 1:30 p. m.

Pastor M. Harold Rye was in charge of the service using Psalm 116:15 as the text for his message.

A ladies trio consisting of Mrs. Richard Snyder, Mrs. Edward Larson and Mrs. James Knutson, sang two numbers, "Face to Face" and "Take My Hand, Dear Father." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Orland Fjelland.

The many floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Martin Fjelland, Mrs. Ernest Fjelland and Mrs. John Anfinson.

Pallbearers were Paul Seversike, Torval Thompson, Jr., Arnold Skromme, Melvin Sandvold, Ray Johnston and LaVern Cox.

Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Madrid.

Relatives coming from out of the state to attend the service were Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Seversike of Beaverton, Ore., Paul Seversike of Seattle, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Thompson, Sr. an Torval Thompson, Jr. of Detroit, Mich., Dr. and Mrs. Harry Lieffers of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Harold Beatty and Austin Skromme of Urbana, Ill., Arnold Skromme of Moline, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sandvold of New Richland, Minn. Also relatives and friends from Des Moines, Madrid, Roland and Story City.

Obituary

Johanna Thompson was born Sept. 27, 1875 at Holmedal, Norway, to Lars and Johanna Holmedal. She passed away Monday, Ma 6, 1963 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, reaching the age of 87 years, 7 months, 9 days.

While in Norway she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was united in marriage to Ole T. Thompson of Fjare, Norway. They came to this country in 1905 and for the remainder of her life, she resided in the Madrid, Slater and Huxley communities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole, in 1930, and a daughter, Mrs. G. P. (Rena) Brown in 1932; also her parents, six brother and five sisters.

Survivors include one son, Torval of Detroit, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. W. W. (Hannah) McKim of Des Moines, Mrs. L. S. (Jean) Seversike of Beaverton, Ore. and Mrs. Burton (Christie) Fjelland of Huxley; also seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one brother, Torris Holmedal in Norway and a host of relatives and friends.
