LEADER MISSED
Death of "Mother of Israel" is Felt In Church Circles
The death of Mrs. Mary Beaumont Welch, at the age of 81 years, on the 2nd inst., removed from Friendship Village, Los Angeles, one who had resided there for thirty years and devoted her life to religious work.
Mrs. Welch was greatly interested in the Young Woman's Christian Association and was a member of its board several years. She had large Sunday-school classes of men in the University Methodist Church. In her younger days, Mrs. Welch who was the wife of Dr. A. S. Welch, president of the Iowa State College of Liberal Arts, organized the first department of home economics in that institution. The college gave her a testimonial of service in recognition of her leadership in its early development at its jubilee last year.
