Last Rites for Mrs. Rachel Johnson, 74

Last rites for Mrs. Rachel Johnson of near Cambridge were held Friday afternoon. A short prayer service was held at the Riis Funeral Home in Slater at 2:30 followed by the services at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge at 3 o'clock. Pastor Harry Stoutland was in charge of both services.

Mrs. Howard Erickson was the soloist and was accompanied by Martha Joe Anderson, organist.

There were many beautiful floral tributes and gifts to worthy causes in memory of the deceased.

Pallbearers were Gurton Erickson, Elling Sandve, Noel Larson, Arnold Sydnes, Kermit Freeland and Dave Birkestrand.

Interment was in the Palestine Cemetery.

Obituary

Rachel Johnson, daughter of Lars and Martha Wing, was born August 13, 1881 in Story county, Iowa.

In infancy she was brought to the Lord in baptism. She later reaffirmed this covenant through confirmation at the Palestine Church. It was then she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and constantly lived in the hope of His love and grace.

In 1903 she was united in marriage to Oliver Johnson and settled on a farm adjoining that on her parents.

She passed away quietly at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames on Wednesday morning, June 20, after a brief illness.

Preceding her in death were he parents and a brother and sister who died in infancy.

Surviving are her husband, Oliver, a son, Thurman and wife, Francis, and a grandson, Roger.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1953.

Mrs. Johnson will be remembered as a kind and loving wife and mother. May God bless her memory.
