MRS. HACTOR MASON LAID TO REST

Final Summons came Thursday, the Third. Many attended the funeral on Sunday.

Mrs. Hactor Mason passed away last Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock after a serious illness which dated back almost three weeks, she having taken sick on the 13th day of June. She had been very low the entire time and death was anticipated. Funeral took place Sunday afternoon from her late home and the Bethlehem cemetery. The services were in charge of Rev. P. O. Wee and Rev. Bueland. Rev. Bueland gave a discourse in Norwegian while Rev. Wee addressed the immense audience, first in the Norwegian language and later in the English. Both spoke touchingly of the beautiful life that had passed away in the death of Mrs. Mason.

Deceased was born February 29, 1840, at Fieldberg, Norway, Europe. There she grew to womanhood. With others she later emigrated to America where she remined the balance of her life. For four years she worked in Illinois as a servant girl. She was then united in marriage to Ole Bakkevold. Their journey in life together was very brief as he died very suddenly only two weeks after their marriage. In 1872, the 29th day of February, she remarried, being joined in matrimony to Hactor Mason, a widower with five children to care for. They made their home southeast of town till a few years ago then they move to Slater to take up their residence among our people. She was the mother of six children, four of whom survive her and were present at the funeral last Sunday. They are Mrs. P. L. Brown of Garner, Ia.; Mrs. Sam Barnes of near Alleman; Mrs. F. E. Nelson of west of town. All were by her bedside through the greater part of her illness.

Mrs. Mason a member of the Bethlehem church. She had been an earnest Christian for many years and passed away with implicit faith and confidence in the saving power of the one she had worshipped in life. She was the kindest of neighbors and loved to do those things that go to make the world a happier, sweeter place of abode. During her long, serious illness she was never known to complain. On the other hand, she had only words of cheer to the sorrowing ones who watched over her from day to day.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Bretha Jorgelina Mason was the daughter of Jorgen Lande. She therefore listed her maiden name as both Lande and Jorgensdatter in the Norwegian tradition.
