Bernice Irene Aldrich, 81, formerly of Alleman, died Oct. 1, 2005, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Bernice was born April, 16, 1924, to Peter J. and Gertrude (Steenhoek) Van De Wall in Leighton. She married James Cecil Aldrich on Oct. 19, 1949, in Alleman. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Bernice was a 1943 graduate of Alleman High School, and was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. She was employed at North Polk Schools until she retired in 1980. She resided in Alleman and Huxley for most of her life.
Bernice is survived by two granddaughters, Peggy Ann (Jason) Back, of Polk City, and Angela (Rob) Avila, of Carlisle; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Marion (Bev) Van De Wall, of Pleasant Hill; two sisters, Dorothy (Dale) Lund, of Slater, and Beulah (C.P.) Groenendyk, of Tracy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sons, Duane Ray Aldrich and Craig Alan Aldrich.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 p.m., at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman with Pastor Barb Bullock officiating. Burial was at Lincoln Cemetery in Alleman. Memorials may be given to Salem United Church of Christ or Madrid Home.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was entrusted with arrangements.
