JOE CROFT IS LAID TO REST
He Was Buried From the Methodist Church at Sheldahl Last Thursday Afternoon.
Funeral over the remains of Mr. Joe Croft, who passed away at Houston, Texas, on November 28, was held from the Methodist church at Sheldahl last Thursday, the 4th. The services were in charge of Rev. Anderson. Burial was made in the Sheldahl cemetery. There was general attendance of relatives and friends.
Joseph Arthur Croft was born September 28, 1873 in Garden township, Boone county, Iowa. He died at Houston, Texas, on November 28, 1919, at an age of 46 years and 2 months. He is survived by two daughters, Gladys, who is making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Will Croft at Slater, and Clarice, who is living with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Croft at Sheldahl. Four brothers also survive him. They are Fred of Sheldahl and Will, Ed and John of this place.
Having been born and reared in this vicinity, Joe is well known to many of our readers. He had been poorly in health since January, 1911. At that time he was seriously ill and he never fully recovered. He sought a change of climate and went to Texas, where he lived the major part of the time since 1911. A year ago he was critically ill with the flu. It left him very weak. Early last fall he suffered from tonsilitis. Later he fell victim to sciatic rheumatism. These complications caused a general break down which confined him to his bed. While confined to his room, he was cheerful and hoped to be about soon. On the morning of the 28th he did not eat any breakfast and complained of being very tired. He fell asleep and never awoke. Death had called him.
Many pleasant memories will linger around Joe's name. He was deeply interested in the church and was active in its work. During his late illness he seemed to have a premonition of death and selected the songs ----- his funeral among them being "Saved by Grace." While making Sheldahl his home he served the people of that place as their postmaster, being at the same time publisher of the Thrift. Ill health made it necessary for him to give up the work.
