J. W. Hunt, 76, Called by Death
Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday for J. W. Junt, who passed away at his home in Slater Sunday evening at 6:30 from a heart ailment. Services were at 2 o'clock from the Riis Funeral Home and at 2:30 in the Methodist church in charge of Rev. J. H. Krenmyre. The pastor chose as his text, Daniel 12:13 "But go thou thy way till the end be; for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days."
Homer Lewis sang two solos: "The End of the Road" and "God's Tomorrow." He was accompanied by Mrs. Phil Rood.
The flowers were in charge of Mrs. A. J. Mays and Mrs. John Gunderson.
Pallbearers were: Elmer Janovick, Bob Janovick, Lee Corari, Thomas McClelland, Nick Treat and John Golitich, all of Madrid.
Mr. Hunt and his family moved to Slater 10 years ago from near Madrid. He had been in poor health for some time. The past week his condition became serious and his children were called home.
Mr. Hunt, known as "Jack" Hunt to many coal miners over the state, was a veteran of the mines having worked them for 51 years. He started in at the age of nine years and from the age of 11 on he worked continuously in them for many, many years. Most of this work was done in the vicinity of Madrid.
Obituary.
John Wallace Hunt was born in Blythe, England, June 11, 1870, and passed away Aug. 11, 1946, at the age of 76 years and 2 months. He was the son of Thomas and Hannah Hunt and came to this country when a small child. He was united in marriage to Bessie Davis on July 14, 106.
To this union were born five daughters and two sons. They are: Mrs. Katherine Smith of Boone; Wallace and Hazel Hunt, at home; Helen Ratecki of Chicago, Ill.; Dorothy Sinn of Boone; Warren Hunt of Slater and Wilma Holmes of Backus, Minn. He also leaves a daughter by a former marriage, Mrs. Goldie Vanderwerf, of Sleepy Eye, Minn., and two step-children, Mrs. Opal Treat of Des Moines and Lester Davis of Polk City. He is also mourned by one sister and four brothers and 24 grandchildren and two great gandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, three sisters and two brothers.
