Funeral Rites for Lester Halverson

Funeral services for Lester H. Halverson were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Monday, Sept. 13 at 2 p. m.

Officiating clergymen were Rev. W. A. Adix who conducted the service and Rev. Olaf Holen who delivered the message in tribute of the deceased.

Mrs. Oliver Newman was the organist and accompanied Rev. Lewis Malmin of Des Moines who sang "In Time Like These."

Pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Halverson: Paul Halverson, Everett Halverson, LaVerne Halverson, Don Halverson, Richard Sydnes and Joris Severtson.

Interment was in Slater Municipal Cemetery.

Obituary

Lester Halverson was born April 5, 1898 in Story County, Ia. and died at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines Sept. 10, 1965.

His parents were Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Halverson. He attended the Slater public schools and took a commercial course at Jewell Lutheran College in Jewell, Ia.

He worked in various capacities in Slater. He was manager of the Peoples' Store for a number of years, after which he was Slater postmaster several years. He then worked at the Slater Creamery until failing health forced his retirement a few years ago.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was married to Mildred Ryen who preceded him in death and when their daughter, Helen Ruth, was six months old. His was a life of service. He was always willing the extend a helping hand to relatives and friends in sickness or in time of need.

In failing health for several years, he entered Iowa Lutheran Hospital for surgery several weeks ago. Although he improved some at first, his condition worsened and he continued seriously ill until death brought a release from his suffering on Sept. 10.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two children, Dorothy Elaine and David Glenn who died in infancy and one sister, Mrs. Martin (Clara) Hauskins.

Surviving him are his son, Phillip, and daughter, Helen Ruth, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Richardd (Theresa) Sydnes of Des Moines and Mrs. Lawrence (Ruth) Fausch of Alleman; two brothers Roy of Slater and Burton of Council Bluffs; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
