From Cremation Society of Iowa, Clive, Iowa.

John Richard Goos, of Adel, passed away at age 53 on January 12, 2023, after a six-month battle with lung cancer.

John was born in Ames on April 17, 1969, to Rick and Nancy Goos. After turning 18, he enlisted in the armed forces and earned his GED while serving. After completing basic training in Georgia, he was stationed in Hawaii.

John enjoyed the outdoors and working with his hands; thus, he decided to pursue a career in construction after an honorable medical discharge from the armed forces.

John returned to Iowa where he met the mother of his children, Staci, and had two wonderful sons, Austin and Brandon. Over the years, he enjoyed spending time with his sons and forged an even stronger relationship with them within the last year.

John loved fishing, watching Nascar, the Dallas Cowboys, the Hawkeyes, and spending time with family as much as he could. He was overjoyed that he finally had another Hawkeye in a family of Cyclones after his nephew, Alec, began attendance at law school at Iowa. He and his other nephew, Carter, would often talk about the latest NASCAR race.

At any gathering, if there was laughter, John was usually at the center of it, often describing his exploits as a younger man with his two younger brothers, Bryan Goos and Chris Goos. The three brothers were loyal to one another. John and Bryan forged an even closer bond after John moved to Adel and spent much time at the lake, baseball games, and laughing with one another.

John was basically a member of the McDonald family, Thomas and Mary McDonald welcomed him into the family, and he was as much a McDonald as he was a Goos. He was considered a brother and a son.
With his heart always on his sleeve, John was a kind and caring person. He was a loyal father, brother, uncle, son, and friend, willing to do anything for the people he cared about. He had a heart of gold and wanted to do right by everyone.
Even until the end, John maintained his humor, his faith, and his love for the people around him. Never once did John lament the hand he was dealt, which is a testament to his character and as a man of faith.

John has joined his brother, Chris Goos, and his grandparents, Lee and Beulah Hoffman, and Dick and Ginny Goos, watching over the rest of the Goos family.

John is survived by his mother, Nancy Goos, his father, Richard Saar Goos (Linda Goos), his two sons, Austin and Brandon Goos, his brother, Bryan Goos, his sister-in-law, Amy Goos, his two nephews, Alec and Carter Goos, and many other family and friends.

There will be a burial service on Janurary 27, 2023 at 2 o'clock at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. Located at 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA. Following the burial service, there will be a celebration of life at the American Legion Post 403. Located at 910 Main Street, Van Meter, IA.
