THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 28, 2005.

Russell Edward Morfey, 79, of Nevada, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with the Rev. Brice Hughes officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Russell was born June 19, 1926, in Blue Earth, Minn., to Ross E. and Grace Opal Faye (Anderson) Morfey. He lived in Nevada most of his life. He loved to ride his bike and rode in RAGBRAI three years. He played the trumpet in jazz and dance bands. He enjoyed playing chess, loved storytelling and assisting with community services and activities.

He is survived by one sister, Marlene (Morfey) Carleton of Tillamook, Ore; one sister-in-law, Waneta (Kirby) Morfey of Hoffman, Minn.; two nieces and four nephews and their spouses and families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald LeRoy Morfey.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
