THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 28, 2005.

Jamie Wade, 57, died Monday, Sept. 26, from a glioblastoma multiforma brain tumor at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30 at Central Presbyterian Church, 3829 Grand Ave., Des Moines, where he was a member. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in Hebron Cemetery in Weldon. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines.

Jamie was born on July 10, 1948, in Osceola and grew up in Weldon. He graduated from Clarke Community High School and received a B.S.B.A. with a major in accounting from Drake University School of Business and his J.D. from Drake University Law School.

He worked for the securities department of the State of Iowa as a broker-dealer examiner from 1974-77, then as commissioner of securities until 1981. He practiced law for 13 years and was a senior partner at the Davis, Hockenberg, Wine, Brown, Koehn and Shors law firm, in the area of corporate financing and securities law. In addition to representing venture capital fund managers, securities brokerage firms, individual securities brokers and investment bankers, he counseled start-up and growing companies. In 1994, he joined Engineering Animation Inc., and served as the vice president of administration and general counsel. He joined EAI after representing the company as outside counsel, beginning shortly after its incorporation in 1989. In 2000, he joined Unigraphics Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of Electronic Data Systems, serving as deputy general counsel. In 2002, he began his private practice in Ames. In 2004, he continued his career at SOLA International in San Diego, Calif., as senior vice president and general counsel, where he was employed when he was diagnosed with cancer in October 2004. In March 2005, he returned to Iowa with his family and continued treatment at the Brain Tumor Center at Duke University in Durham, N.C.

He married Marti Belin Feb. 6, 1982, in Rockford, Ill. He was devoted to his family and his dog GiGi. He also enjoyed cars, hunting, traveling, skiing and rowing. He was a co-founder in 1983 of the Des Moines Rowing Club and was a member of the Iowa Bar Association, American Bar Association, American Corporate Counsel Association and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. He was selected by the Small Business Administration as the Small Business Advocate of the Year in 1991 for Iowa and then for the three state region of Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. He was appointed commissioner of the Des Moines Sister City Commission and led a trade mission to China in 1992. He also served as the general secretary (1991-94) of the Committee on Foreign Relations, one of 32 committees of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He was also a member of the Ames Economic Development Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Marti; two daughters, Margaret Wade, a freshman at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and Ann-Charlotte Wade, a junior at Ames High School; three brothers, Jeffrey (Martha) Wade of Weldon, Jon (Becky) Wade of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Jack (Lynette) Wade of Spirit Lake, Idaho; one aunt, Evelyn O'Neal of Marshalltown; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Belin of Rockford;one sister-in-law, Betsy (Allan) Carlson of Rockford; nieces and nephews, Shawn (Lindsay) Wade of Weldon, Jennifer (Scott) VanWyk of Ankeny, Skylar and Dylan Wade of Cheyenne, Wyo., Athan Wade of Spirit Lake, Anders (Kelly) Carlson, Sarah-Eva, Anna and Miriam Carlson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Glendal "Sport" Wade, of Weldon.
