“Rev. Father Burke died at Mercy hospital, Sunday morning at 10 o’clock. He died from the effects of the injury re … Grinnell last Wednesday. Father Burke was the pastor of Newton and adjoining missions. For fifteen years he had labored zealously in the diocese of Davenport and built many churches. During his pastorate of two years at Newton he built a church at Colfax and a church parochial residence at Valeria, whilst attending at the same time three other congregations under his charge. The funeral will take place Thursday morning at 10 o’clock from St. Ambrose church. It will be attended by the bishop and a large number of priests from various parts of the state. After the solemn high mass of requiem the remains will be taken to Ft. Dodge for burial. – DES MOINES NEWS. Father Burke had a large number of communicants living south of town. He was very successful with his charge at Valeria and will be greatly mourned by his parishioners.”
