BROWN, ELIZA A. BROWN (MRS. HARVEY BROWN) (1876-1894)
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 15, 1894, page 1.
"PEORIA CITY – Again death has brought a gloom over this entire neighborhood by laying his ley* hands upon Mrs. Lida Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Brown of this place. All that knew her feel to mourn her sad and sudden death. Only three short months ago she was made the happy bride of Mr. Harvey Brown, who lived north of Maxwell. But just as she began life real the grim monster claimed her, and she left her new home and her young, sorrowing husband, and now lives where no evil can befall her. Her death was not expected, and it found her in the bloom of youth, only 17 years and 5 months old. Her parents and many friends mourn her great loss, but they sorrow not as those that have no hope, for she left evidence that she had sought and found the Savior of the world. Her sufferings were short, but severe, and they soon ended the life that was so precious to her kindred. Her parents, brothers and sisters and husband are grief stricken. But just over in the better land Lida sings the songs of redeeming love. With her last dying breath she sang two whole tunes clear through, then peacefully went to sleep in Jesus – a sleep that none ever wakes to weep again. There is no crying there for all tears are wiped from her eyes, and she will never weep any more. She was so attached to her home. Oh, how she loved her home. She would weep when leaving only for a short time, but she weeps no more, but with anxious heart she is waiting for her loved ones to join her where they will live together forever. On Friday, the last sad rites were paid to her lifeless form in the Peoria church. The sermon was preached by Rev. Rowley, after which, all that was mortal was laid to rest in the Peoria City cemetery, there to sleep till called by the 1st loud trumpet that wakes the sleeping dead.”THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 15, 1894, page 1.
