Nadia Phelps Smith, 74, of 877 Mallard Avenue in rural Boone, died Monday, Sept. 19, at home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.
Nadia was born April 28, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Roland and Thersia (Henry) Phelps. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1949. She married Eldon Stanley Smith in June 12, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. She was a bookkeeper in Ames and Boone, working for the Ames Credit Union and the former Ross Motors. She was a member of Boone Garden Club. Besides gardening, she enjoyed collecting antique glassware and pottery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by three daughters, Lonna Furlong and husband, John, of Atlantic, Lisa Nalean and husband, Loren, of Boone and Lyn McCosky and husband, Warren, of Eau Claire, Wis.; two sisters; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel with the family present from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. to time of service Friday at the chapel.
Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Central Iowa-Boone office.
