OBITUARY OF L. T. HEGGEN

Mr. Lars T. Heggen, whose illness and death was mentioned in these columns last week, was born in Olen, Norway, Europe February 1st, 1871, his parents being Martha and Torkel Heggen. He came to America with his parents at the age of 11 years. They took up their residence in the community south of Huxley, where deceased grew to manhood and worked up till the age of 20 years, he being employed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Larson for several years. On December 28, 1892, he was joined in marriage to Miss Elisa Maland. The following spring they moved to Humboldt county, where they later bought a home and where he resided at the time that death claimed him, October 17, 1921. He was the father of ten children. Of these, two died in infancy and one, Miss Lydia, died during the flu period of December 1918. The children, who with the wife and mother survive him, are: Bertha, Julia, Mathilda, Talmai, Joseph, Stanley and Burnette. He is also mourned by two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral took place from his late home and the church where he worshipped on Thursday afternoon, October 20th, southwest of Renwick, Iowa. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. Severtson, who addressed the assembled relatives and friends at the home in the Norwegian language. At the church he used the English language, addressing a crowd that taxed the capacity of the building. Splendid singing and a fine address were the outstanding features of the beautiful services. The floral offerings were many and beautiful as well, and came from friends and relatives from far and near. Burial was made in the family lot.

Deceased had a wide acquaintance and had many relatives and friends in the vicinity of Huxley. He was a devout Christian and a home lover and home builder, to whom the family was everything. The thoughtfulness and patience that served him so well through life never deserted him during his brief illness, and death itself was met with a smile and that peace of mind and heart that comes only from a life nursed and matured in Christian living.
