Funeral Wednesday For Mrs. Canfield

Services for Mrs. Nona Canfield of Sheldahl were held Wednesday afternoon at the Sheldahl Methodist Church at 3:30 p. m.

Rev. Richard Nichol was in charge of the service, using as his text 1 Cor. 13. During the course of his talk he used favorite scriptures of the deceased.

Mrs. Marvin Benson and Mrs. Wayne Osterhout sang two duets, "How Great Thou Art" and "My Yielded Heart." They were accompanied by the organist, Bob Gibbons.

Pallbearers were Arnold DeBie, Jesse McKinney, Verlund Stevens, Monnie Stauffer, Earl Mosebach and August Johnson.

Interment was in the Sheldahl Cemetery.

Obituary

Nona T. Canfield was born Mar. 13, 1889 at Madison, Kan., the daughter of Isaac and Harriett Van Dorn. She passed away at University Hospital in Iowa City on July 19 at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 6 days.

When she was a small child, the family moved to Polk City, Ia., where she later graduated from high school. She attended Drake University in Des Moinea and later taught at several rural schools.

She was united in marriage with George M. Canfield on July 18, 1920. To this union were born three daughters: Patricia Grace and Dorothy. She also loved and raised Norma and Beatrice, daughters of Mr. Canfield's previous marriage.

They moved to Sheldahl in 1930, where she served her community faithfully as its telephone operator for many years. She was a member of the Sheldahl Methodist Church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service and served them in nearly every capacity whenever needed. She was always willing to help and to share her time with her family and her community.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1937; also her parents, two brothers and a step-daughter, Norma.

She is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Tate of Tipton, Mrs. Grace Gibbons of Slater and Mrs. Dorothy Daugherty of Ralston, Neb.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Simon of Sunland, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Harriett Jones of Polk City and Mrs. Ruby Lehman of Sheldahl; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
