Mrs. Rygh Was A Pioneer Woman

Roland, Oct. 10--Mrs. J. C. Rygh died at the home of her son Oscar Rygh southeast of town Thursday afternoon, and a private funeral was held at the home Monday afternoon at two o'clock, after which interment took place in the Roland cemetery.Mrs. Rygh was a native of Norway where she was born in the year 1855, her maiden name being Ingeborg Stole. She came to America in 1876 and three years later became the bride of John C. Rygh.
Three sons were born to them Chris Rygh of Oakland, Calif.; Oscar Rygh of this place and William Rygh who died in 1919, a few months after the death of his father.
Mrs. Rygh has lived in this community 49 years, and since the death of her husband nine years ago, has lived alone. She has been a sufferer of cancer for a number of years, and has been operated upon several times, but had been failing rapidly for the past six months, and was removed to the home of her son several weeks ago, where she passed away. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Henry Osmundson, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ersland, and Mrs. Wier Viland of Slater, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fosse, Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Brekke, Mrs. Ode Lenning and Mrs. Cena Rygh of Radcliffe, Mrs. Chris Osmundson of Webster city, MR. and Mrs. Osmund Sorem of McCallsburg, Oscar Ostrem of Jewell and Ed Osmundson of Minneapolis, Minn.
