Robert "Bob" James Van Scoy
Oct. 29, 1942-Oct 6, 1993Robert "Bob" James Van Scoy, 50, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Ames, died Wednesday of cancer at North Kansas City Hospital. A funeral service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Ames, with the Rev. Les Gyllstrom officiating. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Robert Van Scoy was born in Ames to Jesse and Gladys (McDonald) Van Scoy. He graduated from Ames High School in 1961, and attended Iowa State University and AIB Business Institute in Des Moines. He married Barbara Jean Hickle on Sept. 30, 1967, at Boone, and they were married for 17 years. Before moving to Kansas City in 1980, he was employed by Nims Sportsman's and the Department of Transportation in Ames. At Kansas City, he was an independent insurance agent and financial adviser. He had served in the Army Reserves.
He is survived by two daughters, Tania and Robin Van Scoy both of Kailua, Hawaii; his father, Jess, and stepmother, Beulah Van Scoy both of Ames, a brother, Tom Van Scoy of Omaha, Neb.; three stepbrothers, Jerry Hagen of Tuscon, Ariz., Dean Hagen of Ames, and Kent Hagen of Kelley, and his fiancee, Connie Sherlock of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys.
The family will receive friends at Adams Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Bob Van Scoy Memorial, care of the First National Bank, Ames.
