Funeral Rites For Miss Marie Krak Held Saturday
Slater, June 30 -- Funeral services for Miss Marie Krak, 79, were held Saturday afternoon. A prayer service was held at 1:30 at the Riis Funeral Home, and at 2 o'clock services were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in charge of Rev. P. E. Onstad, assisted by Rev. E. R. Rorem of Story City.
The beautiful flowers were arranged by Mrs. Amund Ihle and Mrs. Henry Lilland.
Rev. P. E. Onstad sang a Norwegian song, "Tank Naar Engang." A duet "The Lord Is My Shepherd," was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. The audience sand "Abide With Me." Gifts of money to the missions were given by relatives and friends in memory of Miss Krak.
The pall bearers were Gunnar Sorhus of Bondurant, Andrew Egeland of Cambridge, Lester Nelson, Archie Peterson, Nels Ihle, and Henry Lilland.
Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Miss Marie Krak was born January 15, 1866, in Haugesund, Norway, and died June 19, 1945, at the Sunset Home in Story City at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 4 days. She came to America in 1903, accompanying an uncle who had been in Norway to visit his folks. She made her home in Slater the past 41 years.
She was a member of the Bethlehem church and the Ladies Aid and always took an active part in their work. She an efficient seamstress and was well known in the surrounding community.
She is survived by one nephew Otto Reitan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who was present for the services, also by one grand-nephew, Gerald Reitan, and two grand-nieces, Marlene and Darlene Reitan all of Minneapolis.
Among other relatives attending the services were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Ole Ness of New Sharon, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Knudson and daughter Martha and Miss Mary Knudson of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Thompson of Des Moines, Mrs. Murna Grimsley of Story City, Mrs. A. K. Johnson, Elmer Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Serene Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Johnson and David of Huxley, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Thompson, Miss Yette Olson, Mrs. H. O. Halverson and Margaret of near Kelley and Mrs. A. B. Lande of Ames.
