“HARLAND H. WITMER. – Harland Harding Witmer, 86, of rural Maxwell, died at Long Term Care, Story County Hospital, Nevada, IA, Tuesday, March 8, 1988. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell with Rev. William Rieckhoff officiating. The body has been cremated. Mr. Witmer was born Dec. 21, 1901, at rural Maxwell, IA to Harding and Jennie (Whitney) Witmer. On June 10, 1933, he married Bernice Fish in Webster City IA. He was a lifelong resident of the Maxwell area, where he farmed until retirement in 1966. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Maxwell. Survivors include one son, Dean Witmer of Perry IA; one sister, Gladys Olinger of Ankeny IA; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 4, 1986; two brothers and two sisters.”
