Nevada Public Library obituary file, Nevada, Iowa. NEVADA JOURNAL December 1936.
“MRS. ESTHER H. WHITNEY. – Mrs. Esther H. Whitney, 89, died early Saturday at Iowa sanitarium where she and Mrs. Morse had been living since the recent death of Dr. Morse. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Morfoot funeral home, with Elder A. L. Filler in charge. The body was taken to Battle Creek, Mich., for interment by the side of her husband. Mrs. Whitney had been a resident of Nevada for over eleven years, coming there with the Morse family from Hinsdale, Ill., when Dr. Morse took charge of Iowa sanitarium as medical superintendent. She was a native of Vermont, where she was born at East Poultney on October 8, 1847. They made their home for a time at Malone, N. Y., but later moved to Kirksville, N. Y., where the two daughters were born. One of them is Mrs. Morse with whom she spent the last years of her life, and the other who was the wife of a missionary to France is now deceased. In 1882 Mrs. Whitney accompanied her husband as a missionary to Switzerland as assistant to Elder Andrews, the first Seventh - day Adventist to leave this country. There Mr. Whitney’s health failed him and he with one daughter returned to Battle Creek, Mich., while Mrs. Whitney and the other daughter remained for a few months in Switzerland.”
